It is pretty much impossible to cover both of these large wine-producing countries in the Beginner’s Course so here on the Advanced Course we focussed on some of the lesser known wines as well as discovering even more quality areas.
During the Italy and Spain Update session in November 2014, we tasted:
Marques de Alarcon, (Macabeo/Verdejo), Vdt Castilla, Spain, Inma Perez for Marks and Spencer, 2012, MYR65
*Nemorino, (Trebbiano/Semillon), Toscana IGT, Italy, I Giusti & Zanca, 2013, MYR80
**Pigreco, (Syrah/Merlot/Cabernet Franc), Rosso d’Italia, Tuscany, Roberto Cipresso, 2011, MYR92
***Faustino I Gran Reserva, (Tempranillo/Graciano/Mazuelo), Rioja DOCa, Spain, Bodegas Faustino, 2001, MYR179
*aged in french barrels for 4 months on lees
**aged in french oak barrels 50% new
